Hello, here I am!

My name is Kyle Christopher Jennings and I am currently a Sophomore at Central Michigan University. I am 19 years young born on June 4th, 1998 in Inchon City South Korea. I was adopted from South Korea when I was four months old so, I came to America, more specifically Michigan, on October 13th, 1998. My parents, Sean and Kellie Jennings, and I lived in Grand Blanc, MI from the time that I came to America to just around the time that I started elementary school, in which we then moved to Ortonville, MI, which is a fairly small community.

I attended and graduated from Brandon School District in which I was given several opportunities that not only gave me the skills that was needed to become successful, but it most importantly, shaped me into the person that I am today. During my life of growing up through Brandon, I experienced so many different things and I was involved in a variety of different organizations that has given me the opportunity to form relationships with so many different people and it just felt good to be the change that the school needed. During my four years at Brandon High School (BHS), I was involved in many different sports and extra-curricular activities such as participating on the Varsity Track and Field team and stepping up as a leader as one of the captains for the Varsity Swim and Dive team. I was also one of our class officers, a three year student council member, as well the school’s student body representative at the school district’s Board of Education meetings every month. All of these things helped me grow as a person and helped me become a better leader in which I continued my experience of being involved in leadership in college.

At the start of my senior year, I was struggling to find what I wanted to do with my life as well as where I wanted to go to college. I visited several different universities but only one really stood out to me and that was Central Michigan University. I was drawn into the exhilarating atmosphere and environment that the campus held. I also was very passionate about continuing my path of expanding my leadership abilities and I applied for the Leader Advancement Scholarship in the fall of my senior year. It wasn’t until January that next year when I had been notified of my scholarship, that I was really set on going to CMU!

As a college student now, I have begun to really think about what I want to with my life. I first thought to myself that although I want to get a good education and become “successful” while I’m here at CMU, I really wanted to be involved and I wanted to “put a stamp” on the world and make an impact on campus. Some things that I was interested in being involved in is Greek Life at CMU. Being a part of Greek Life to me has not only given me an opportunity to expand my involvement on campus through leadership, philanthropy, and service, but it has open up so many doors to the world as it is a great way of networking with others that are either interested in the same things as you or have the same beliefs and goals as you.

Throughout my time here at CMU, I have struggled to find what I am passionate when it comes to what I really want to do with my future. I been back and forth between many different career paths, but after changing my major for the fourth time now, I believe I have found where my heart is which is pursuing a major in Communication Disorders. The reason for wanting to go this route is because I really want to make a difference in other people’s lives. I am also minoring in American Sign Language and Leadership and I believe that both of those will also allow me to have the skills needed to help others to the best of my ability. My goal is to work in speech pathology either in a school or a hospital and I would love to work with kids.

Being almost half way through college now, I couldn’t be more excited to start getting into my major, create more relationships with new people, and become a part of more organizations on campus and explore the opportunities that CMU has to offer!
